Wine Club June 2019

The Known: Mezza di Mezzacorona Italian Glacial Bubbly 60 % Chardonnay – 30% Pinot Bianco – 10% Muller Thurgau $16.99

From the Italian Alps, formed by Glaciers Centuries ago & matured “on Lees” (the spent yeast cells)

The production process is Charmat method the same as Prosecco. Charmat is simply producing a secondary fermentation in the tank, instead of the bottle. The bouquet displays rich and intense aromas of fresh fruits like red apple, pear, white peach and melon, and delicate pineapple with an elegant note of wild mountain rose. The palate is very pleasant with a soft mousse, persistent bubbles and smooth acidity. A perfect switch up from Prosecco or Cava.

Food Pairings: BRUNCH! (as always), fruit salad, Brie, potato chips, popcorn, butter

The Unknown: (sort of) a French Cab Franc, you’ve had the grape, but I’m betting not a 100% cab franc from France. Domaine Bassac Cab Franc (organic) $12.99

From the Cotes De Thounge (ever hear of that?!) in Languedoc-Roussillon, it’s dark in color with marmalade and ripe black fruit aromas, full bodied. This isn’t a Virginia Cab Franc by any means. It’s a true expression of the grape from its country of origin.

Food pairings: Meat & Pork. Cabernet Franc pairs well with grilled steaks and chops, Portobello mushrooms, green olives, pepper, rosemary, and mint
