Wine Club May 2019

May 10 - May 31

May Platinum Wine Club 2019

Todays selections were chosen for summer! Whether you’re grilling or to hot to cook, these wines will work!

The Unknown: Garciarevalo Rueda Casamaro $11.59.

In the heart of Rueda (Spain) is the family-owned winery of Garciarevalo. They specialize in Verdejo farmed in their ancient vineyards, but they also farm a little Viura on the side. The sandy soil is scattered with the occasional ancient seashell even though they are located in central Spain, at an elevation of 900 meters. The soil provided a natural protection from phylloxera when the pest spread across the region about 100 years ago. Those vines still grow today and at an age of 100 to 145 years, they provide a large amount of the free-run juice for Garciarevalo’s Casamaro Blanco. Made from a combination of old and newer vines, the Casamaro Blanco starts as free-run juice, is fermented in stainless steel, and then bottled directly from the tanks. The family uses organic practices when farming, too.

Food Pairings: Make some fish tacos! Get some Thai take out or grill some asparagus

The Known: Berton Vineyards Metal Label “The Black” Shiraz 2017

It’s unfortunate, but sometimes your success can also bring about your downfall. Australia made such a splash with their animal labels, people forgot if you spend a few more dollars, you can get your socks knocked off! Such is the case with The Metal Label Black Shiraz. Its Bold with deep colors and aromas of blackberry & plum with vanilla and spicy oak. It’s full flavored with rich plum, blueberry and mocha notes. It’s got a lot of tannins that are ripe and dense.

Food Pairings: Perfect with slow cooked rich sauces, roasts, sticky sweet ribs or strong cheeses!
